Two meets are planned, as usual starting from Swallowtail Boatyard. The early meet is from the Friday before the Spring Bank Holiday, 24th May, for one week. The later meet is from Friday 23rd August, before the Bank Holiday, also for a week. Contact Nick Hardey for further details.
A South West meet at Plymouth is provisionally arranged for July 12th to 19th. Futher details will be published. Contact is Anne Page.
A new event is to take place at the Daugleddau (Milford Haven) from 11th August to the 19th. Organised by Richard Boardman, the meet will be centred around Neyland Marina. The cost of staying at the marina, for a Lysander, is £131 for a week, and there is trailer and car parking nearby. Launching and recovery are subject to tidal conditions – launching is planned for Sunday 11th between 9 and 10 am, and recovery for Monday 19th afternoon.
The Lysander Owners Association AGM will be on 28th April at 4pm. It will be held at the Grosvenor Hotel, Stockbridge, Hampshire, SO20 6EU. The Spring Supper will follow at 7pm. If you can come please let the Secretary, John Staples, know as soon as possible to arrange accommodation if required.
We are sad to report the demise of the Eventide Owners Association. The LOA has been in correspondence regularly with the EOA over the years and we “swap” magazines. The EOA also “looked after” all the YM designs such as the YM Senior, a boat very similar to the Lysander in many ways, certainly in concept.
So we have decided to “open our doors” to boats of a similar ilk to the Lysander that do not now have an owner’s association.
There is a precedent here. For instance Wilf Hodgkinson sailed with us many times in a boat that looked at first glance like a Lysander, but the hull was round bilged and had been made by Island Plastics on the IOW. Similarly Richard and Shirley Boardman, who are long term members of the LOA and regular attendees at meets, have a little 16ft plywood boat called Tenuviel which is in fact, an Estuary class DIY design.
This will take place on the 14 October 2018 at the Grosvenor Hotel, Stockbridge, Hampshire. We have been promised some really favourable rates.
Stockbridge itself is a delightful town, one of the smallest in England and a tourist destination in its own right, lying, as it does, in the beautiful Test Valley.
More details to follow.
The first Norfolk Broads meet of 2018, at the start of June, was attended by 3 boats and enjoyed fine weather. A full report of this meet has been sent round in the newsletter.
Extremely smart boat spotted at Swallowtail boatyard (Oh OK then – its mine!)
The second Norfolk Broads meet will start on the August Bank Holiday, Friday 24th. It will continue for two weeks, the meet being the same “drop in” format. As in previous years launching will be at Swallowtail Yard, Horsefen Road, Ludham, Norfolk. Members are welcome to join in whenever they can, first week, second week, whole fortnight or any combination. Please notify Nick Hardey, our chairman, of your plans in good time.
The South West Meet will be at Dartmouth from 13th to 20th July.
Designed in the UK in 1963 by Percy Blandford ARINA, for home construction using marine ply, hundreds of Lysanders have been built in the years since.
